How tea makes a difference in the world – the international day of tea!

We are very happy to launch our first blog today. This blog will dive into this vast ocean of knowledge and beauty around tea, but it will also give a glimpse from our work at our retreats and the work we do within our foundation.

Globally, tea makes a difference. After water, tea is our most common drink in the world. In different areas of the world, from China and Japan to India and Sri Lanka to Rwanda, Kenya, Kongo and to Argentina. Tea has been with us for a long time. There is evidence that tea was consumed in China 5,000 years ago.

Tea production and processing constitutes a main source of livelihoods for millions of families in developing countries and is the main means of subsistence for millions of poor families, who live in a number of least developed countries.

The tea industry is a main source of income and export revenues for some of the poorest countries and, as a labour-intensive sector, provides jobs, especially in remote and economically disadvantaged areas. Tea can play a significant role in rural development, poverty reduction and food security in developing countries, being one of the most important cash crops.

Therefore, United Nation launched the international day of tea the 21st of May this year. We want to highlight the purpose of this day. The UN says:

“The Day will promote and foster collective actions to implement activities in favour of the sustainable production and consumption of tea and raise awareness of its importance in fighting hunger and poverty.”

Since we founded Min Systers Tehus, one of our main goal has been to raise awareness about tea. We have spread knowledge about the benefits of drinking tea and how a really good quality tea can nourish your body and bring you to the present moment. Now we also hope to be a part of this global action. We have always known that our small company, will be more then, just an online store. We are thrilled to see what will come next.
